Malaysia airlines charges outrageous fee
The fare increase is because the child is not accompanied by an adult, not because she will be 12 years old on the day of her return flight. Her birthday is February. In other airlines, as long as a child is accompanied by someone that is 12 years old, the child pays only the child's fare. In this case, she is accompanied by my older kid, who is 14 years old.
However, Malaysia airlines requires the child to be accompanied by someone that is 15 years old for the child to be eligible for child fare. That might be some fine print that we didn't read so we have to accept that. But the airlines requires us to make up the difference for BOTH ways and also requires us to pay a $100 processing fee. Otherwise, the airlines won't allow the kid to get on the airplane. I don't know what kind of service my kid will receive to warrant the extra fare we have to pay.
