i know it may help if you are part of the airlines frequent flyer membership, as when my sister was coming over from england to visit and booked her flight in england, she wanted to sit on the upperdeck of the a380 to have a little more privacy in the 2 seat assignment next to the window instead of the 3seat downstairs, and since it was a Virgin Atlantic codeshare and couldnt do a seat assignment till check in, with my singapore airlines pps solitaire (platinum)(its above kris flyer-frequent flyer program), and was able to do her seat assignment for her both on her way here and back, i did this all from singapore
