I had a very similar situation. For my Thanksgiving travel next week, which I booked in late May, I checked the prices last week and found it to be $85 less than what I paid. Look at it this way...had the fares gone up would the airline have called you and demanded the difference? Additionally by booking early I was able to upgrade my Los Angeles to DC flight using miles which is harder to do closer in since they limit the number of mileage upgrades. I was also able to select exit row seats for all of the other flights plus I'm eligible for a status upgrade on one of the return flights from Philadelphia to Las Vegas and the earlier you book the higher up you are on the list.

So I can either look at it one way - if I had waited until last week I would have saved $85 dollars, or the other- I was able to get one trans-continental flight upgraded early on and I have comfy seats for all the other flights including the long haul return via Las Vegas. I guess in the long run it was a good trade off.
