PHXFlyer - thanks for the info! The flights were the exact same - time, airports, class, etc; also, there were only 3 seats available at the time I booked the ticket and they were all in the same back row. Thanks for the contact information for Beth Reed - since the interent team refuses to put me in touch with a manager, I think snail mail may be my only option!

jimworcs - I would have preferred a different carrier, given the issues I had with Delta last month, but I am flying from a smaller regional airport (the larger international airports are at least 4 hours away) and Delta is the only carrier I can take unless I want to take 3-4 segments instead of 2. In theory it should be less time consuming and less hassle ...
