Shirley, I did a little research. The aircraft you flew on from HNL to PHX was a Boeing 757-200. Those airplanes were first manufactured in 1983, so the chances that your airplane was an older one, and no doubt uncomfortable on a 6 hour flight, are pretty high. For the flight from PHX to TUS, it was either a CR9, which is only 9 years old max, or an Airbust 319, which are at most 17 years old. Unfortunately, the oldest airplane of your trip was the one you had to spend the most time on. Which airline did you switch to for your return trip if I may ask?
