Your treatment is outrageous and BA badly need to sort out their communications. No-one takes responsibility for following through. You often feel like staff just reassure you things are sorted to get you away from the desk. Outrageous.
(You might consider the strength of your friendship though.. if he is angry at you for something which happened over which you had no control, then he is pretty shallow and fair-weather)
