Default Dishonest Delay

While traveling on Continental Airlines Flight 95 from Newark to Belfast on December 23, we were notified by the pilot that the flight suffered a failure of the autopilot system. Because of that failure, we were unable to land in Belfast. We were re-routed to Dublin. Once in Dublin, we remained on the plane for several hours without food or drink. Maintenance men were on and off the plane fixing things. The plan was to make needed repairs, and then fly to Belfast. Since several passengers were too afraid to remain on a plane that had mechanical problems, the pilot arranged for some people to disembark in Dublin. The remaining passengers stayed on the plane and ended up in Belfast four hours behind schedule. Once in Belfast, we had to wait for an hour and a half for our luggage.

When I contacted Continental to request compensation for the delay and the inconvenience caused by their mechanical failure, I was informed that there was nothing wrong with the plane, and that the flight was rerouted because of weather.

Obviously, I am concerned at the deception. Either they lied to me then, or they are lying to me now. I have had 6 emails from their customer service representative. All of them deny the mechanical failure. I have requested to speak with a supervisor, but been denied. We place so much faith in Continental when we board their planes - is it too much to ask for honesty from them?
