The ADA doesn't apply to airlines. No luggage is exempt from FAA requirements not to block the means of egress in an emergency, for take off and landing.
This complaint is fundamentally about the attitude of FAs and their abuse of power. This does not sound like this couple deserved to be thrown off the plane, even if they were grumpy or had attitude after a long fraught day. There is far too much of this abuse of power by FAs it is time they were reigned in.
