Default Transfer after death of spuse

This is a copy of an email I have sent to United and a number of travel magazines:

I am almost TOO UPSET and ANGRY to write this email. My husband passed away on April 7th. I called 3 airlines about the possiblity of his mileage being transferred to my account. Alaska and American each have a simple and accommodating system to transfer miles upon the death of a spouse. NOT UNITED. You not only want a copy of the death certificate, but also require an affidavit notarized (don't you think that is OVERKILL), when a death certificate is honored even by life insurance companies.

Your sysstem is appalling and insulting at a time when a person is under terrible stresss. WE, NOT just my husband, spent the money to earn these miles. Don't you think UNITED should be more compassionate in their policy? Your company should be ashmaed to have this kind of a procdure.

I asked them to waive th $150.00 charge. I got back an email saying NO.

I will do my best NEVER to fly UNITED and will tell everyone I know this procdure.
