I guess the "stewardess" should have left your BF's hand dangling in the aisle where he could be injured by a passing passenger or cart or perhaps trip and injure someone else? I fly on a lot of red-eyes and the most annoying thing is to trip on someone who is sprawled out into the aisle. It is usually their feet but I'm sure an arm could easily cause someone to trip and fall as well.

If I may make a suggestion, if your BF is such a deep sleeper that he cannot contain himself within the confines of his seat you should think about a window seat next time. That way his limp appendages won't protrude into the aisle and cause a trip hazard.
