I think the big question Amaruuq is what did they tell you when you tried to make the change? Unless you bought a full fare ticket (I don't believe I have ever bought one of those, but know friends who have done so) You can usually re-book with no fee. What is this red tape they put you through? Did they explain to you the fare rules, and how much you would have to pay to change? If so it shouldn't have cost more to make the change than to buy a one way ticket. You didn't HAVE to book a ticket, you could have just paid the change fee. Unless of course there's something amiss?
