Is AA becoming Southwest? I've actually heard a similar announcement on a Southwest flight. Something like this: "To help us keep fares low we'd like to be able to board the next flight as soon as possible. Would you please assist us by straightening the seatbelts, disposing of any trash in the seatback pockets...etc" (Perhaps I shouldn't use quotes because I'm paraphrasing.) Maybe this FA has taken one to many flights on Southwest and thought this was a good idea?
I searched the internet and couldn't find the story, but I know I read somewhere that AA recently did a "We Heard You" type press release saying tha5theywere aware of the shoddy interiors on some of their aircraft and they were working to improve the situation. In addition to more frequent and thorough cleaning they accelerated delivery of some 737-800s to replace the aging MD-80 fleet. It sounds like another idea they are implementing is having the customer become the employee and cleaning the planes for them.
What I would suggest is that if you indeed participated in the cleanup then send AA an invoice for your services. Tell them you are President and CEO of TXChampaign Janitorial, LLC and are billing them for aircraft cleaning services rendered. That ought to get their attention.
