I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that the second paragraph is describing the TSA agent and the security checkpoint. There are some agents in some airports who will only accept a driver's license. My DOT credentials can get me into any secure portion of the airport including the tower, however, there are some TSA agents at Dulles airport who will not let me use them to go through the checkpoint using that ID. I have to show my drivers license. My advice is just to show the DL and avoid a scene. And think about it this way, the agent may not be positive about you other form of ID and erred on the side of safety when asking for another form of ID.
