First of all, I will state that I have a frequent flyer account with Delta, fly Delta regularly, and will state that on the domestic leg of the same itinerary (from Atlanta to El Paso) the flight attendants were very professional and courteous. The problems occurred on Delta Flight #67 (from Zurich to Atlanta). We were assigned seats in the first middle row of the plane, directly behind the first class seating area.
As the airplane was preparing for its departure, my daughter, Juliana (age 21 months) slipped free from my wife, Joyce. As my wife tried to grab her, a senior Swiss-German flight attendant emerged from the first class area and screamed at my wife, waving her finger at her making gestures as though my wife (who is of Malaysian descent) could not understand her intent. My wife picked up my daughter and held her tightly on her lap. My daughter who was scared by the whole incident, started crying loudly. The Swiss-German flight attendant then returned to the first class area, before returning to scream at my daughter, who stopped crying momentarily. The senior flight attendant could be heard returning to her seat announcing to the other flight attendants that she had screamed at my wife and daughter, and that her actions "shut up my daughter." Later in the flight we asked a flight attendant with white hair (approximately 60 years in age) about food for our daughter (a ticketed passenger). We were told that we would have to share food from airline snacks with her as no child's meal was ordered. When my daughter woke up later in the flight and cried (because she was hungry at this point), another flight attendant (with died black hair, approximately 60 years old) emerged from the flight attendant area behind business class and yelled at my wife, "Is there some sort of problem here?" During the whole flight, the woman with white hair approximately 60 years old, would push her cart past my seat in the first row of economy section to the next row. To receive a meal, I had to turn around and ask that same attendant for my meal and drink. All in all, the experience was especially abusive and discriminatory for my wife, who treated with unprofessionalism and disdain throughout the flight. Once the flight attendants knew I was her husband I received the same treatment. Overall, I am posting this in this forum because of the boorish and discriminatory behavior of some Atlanta-based Flight #67 flight attendants. |

The crew was discriminatory? Excuse me?
It was you, sir, who felt the need to mention the perceived nationality, age and physical appearance of the crew members you had a "problem" with. Quote:
[1] I highly doubt she "screamed" as you say, but you were there, not me. However, if your child was out of her seat or out of the control of your wife while the aircraft was preparing to depart, it's the flight attendants JOB to ensure, primarily for the safety of YOUR child, that ALL passengers are seated and buckled-in. [2] If your daughter was a "ticketed passenger" as you claim, then why was she able to get free from your wife's arms and why did your wife then hold her during takeoff? Did you purchase a seat for your daughter or are you referring to an "infant ticket" which is required of all lap infants on international flights and is NOT a full-fare. As for the child's meal, did you request it through reservations at least 12 hours before your departure or did you just assume having an infant ticket would trigger a special meal request? [3] Again, I wasn't there so I can't know for sure but did she actually "yell" as you say or simply speak in a deliberate tone of voice. I have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles on various airlines and have yet to hear a flight attendant "scream" or "yell" at a passenger. I have seen plenty of children (and adults) scolded for various reasons but never has the volume or tone of voice risen to the level of a yell or scream. [4] Flight attendants usually move the carts several rows at a time and then backtrack for the drink and meal requests from each row. It just wouldn't be efficient to stop the cart at each and every row. They know best how to do their jobs without any input or criticism on your part. Perhaps if you had just been patient she would have gotten to your aisle a few moments later. |

Nice try, former airline employee.
The only reason there are physical descriptions of the employees is because I needed to describe the flight attendants because I did not have their names. Moreover, the senior flight attendant was being abusive toward my wife and speaking to her as though she were illiterate (my wife is Malaysian and has a PhD.). My daughter did have an infant ticket, but there was no offer of any sort of food for a 21 month-old toddler for a nine hour flight, which is incomprehensible. The same flight attendant pushed her cart past me a total of four times without offering food or drinks. The one time I was served I walked approximately 10 rows to bring to her attention that I was overlooked. The other three times she never returned to ask. By the way, you are correct, you were not there so you have no way of deciding whether or not the flight attendants were discriminating and unprofessional. |

PHXflyboy, I really think you should try reading posts carefully before you respond.
You could not take issue with anything else stated, yet you post the following: I'm sure there was something in the adult meal she could have eaten. She's nearly 2 years old. If she's that picky about what she eats then you should have purchased food for her before you boarded. It's completely YOUR fault. I asked for an extra adult meal and was told that my daughter could eat crackers and cheese from one of our adult meals. No additional meal was offered to my daughter. So please consider all of the information before you post your moronic ideas. You have absolutely no credibility and obviously way too much time on your hands. |

How so?
Okay, so you claim your request for an additional adult meal was denied. If that's so, it was wrong. Having purchased the infant ticket your daughter appeared on the passenger manifest, was included in the "headcount" for that flight and a standard meal should have been loaded for her. Did they give you a reason for not giving her a meal? Or did you just assume it was more racism on their part. |
