I have now had 2 instances where buying an Early Bird Pass did absolutely nothing for me. In one instance, a woman directly in front of me had a B boarding pass and was allowed to board prior to me, having an A.Second instance my wife paid for Early Bird and I did not. When boarding pass was issued I had an earlier position than she did. HUH? Customer service manager (not at a toll free number WOW) told me the system worked as should have even though I clearly should not have been issued an earlier boarding than an "Early Bird" boarding. I told her she was wrong (obviously). She indicated that I had the option of not purchasing an Early Bird fare (DUH). I told her that I also have the option of flying another airline and she indicated go right ahead. OK DONE Good luck Southwest with your obvious contempt for your customers your debt for Air Tran is going to be ummmmmm interesting. SOUTWEST why are you spending millions on advertising and then telling your customers to KISS OFF??????????????? DON'T BUY THE EARLY BIRD FARES, IT IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The early bird special is Southwest manipulating their own so called boarding process. They are the only airline to board like a bus, and they charge a fee of $10 to check in an extra 12 hours earlier than everyone else. Like your complaint says, however, Southwest goes out of order all the time. The few times I have flown Southwest passengers from the C group have jumped ahead of me in the A group and the employees say nothing.
There are far better airlines out there than Southwest. Airlines with assigned seating give you your seat of choice without the headache of making sure you are near a computer 24 hours before departure (or 36 if you want to scam yourself out of $10 [no hidden fees, yeah right]) or if you aren't at the boarding gate at the time of boarding, regardless of what group you are in, you get a center seat. |

Atlanta will get interesting... two big carriers competing head to head. Delta which screwed it's customers, screwed it's employees and screwed it's suppliers by going bankrupt and then getting anti-trust immunity to emerge larger and to abuse their monopoly. They treat their passengers with utter contempt. SWA who treat customers and staff with respect, have never filed bankruptcy and are the most consistently profitable airline in the US, and one of the most consistently profitable in the world. Let the battle commence... whatever "Gromit, Lafayette or PDX" says...., SWA at least provides the possibility that Delta will get some competition despite it's massive "lobbying" money to protect is's monopoly |

If someone cancels their flight (or changes to a different flight) and they already had a boarding pass then their number goes back into the system. Say I checked in and had A-14. You checked in right after me and have A-15. I cancel my flight so A-14 goes back into the sytem. Someone checking in hours later who might normally have gotten a C-group can get the A-14 that I originally had. Even though they checked in after you it is possible for someone to get a lower number boarding pass. Make sense?
