I was on #1926 from MCO-DCA yesterday. When I boarded, a grossly obsese woman was in my window seat, #6A. She told me that the flight attendant moved her there, saying she "would do better in the window and not her center seat". I had no choice but to take her center seat, as the flight was 100% full. For 2 hours, I had to lean into the guy in the aisle seat. Also, I could not lower the armrest between the fat lady and me, because she also occupied 1/4 of my seat!
USAIR - get smarter about how you treat your paying customers. Your flight attendant did not ask me if her decision was okay...she did not even know if I was obese or not, so her actions were not logical. I had booked this seat 6 weeks ago, but USAIR was quite happy to give someone else it without any concern for their actions. ![]() |

If was on a USAir flight from Charlotte to Tampa on Sunday, Sept. 14th, 2008. I was also placed next to an obese passenger. The oversized passenger was in thier seat when I arrived. I could not put down the arm rest and her hips and arms were reaching 6 to 8 inches beyond her seat. I asked the flight attendant if their was another seat available. There was not. I asked USAir for compensation for my problem. They offered a $50 voucher for a future flight on USAir and they suggested that I could have been placed on a later flight. Why not reaccomadate the oversized passenger?
From USAir: "We regret that there were no alternative seats that could have been utilized. In this instance, we could have reaccommodated you on a later flight at your request. " USAir states: "As a team we believe appropriate compensation and apology has been provided and we are unable to alter our previous resolution." Appropriate handling of this problem would have been to compensate me for my discomfort and/or charge the oversize passenger for an extra seat on a later flight. |

Sad part is the out cry that oversized people make when carriers try to charge them(look at out cry when Southwest tried to start charging them for two seats). Its time that those of us stuck sitting next to oversized people start SUEING the oversized people for the inconivence that their size puts on us that are not oversized.
I am sick and tired of having to "share" not only my airplane seat with them but also movie theatre seat, staduim seat etc. |

What many of you don't know though is that a lot of oversized people DO book an extra seat so that they don't inconvenience another passenger. However, the airline will PULL that seat if they overbook so the oversized person is out of the money for the seat and made to feel uncomfortable for their seating and horrid for having to put someone else through it as well.

Really? Then you can have a chat with the company CFO who booked 3 seats and lost the extra seat because the airline overbooked. We were there, we saw it, were you?

US Air 1/26/09 Punta Cana to Philadelphia
I guess you need this info as you are planning to reimburse the gentleman for his inconvenience as well. |

Booking a seat, is not the same as paying for a seat. If the guy paid for the three seats, they might have followed the same rules concerning bumping passengers on an oversold flight. Someone had to give. And the paid for, but empty seats get the first cut.
