Complaint about Delta Airlines
My husband and I bought round trip direct flights from Portland to London in April 2019 for $1248.51 each a few months ago (July 31, 2018). Since then Delta has changed the flight details three times: 1) no longer a direct flight 2) flight times have changed 3) today it was revealed that our flight to Seattle arrives 2 hours LATER than our connecting flight to London.
When I called Delta to ask for an earlier flight to Seattle so we could make our connection they found an earlier flight and I was charged $301.96 more per person amounting to $603.92 additional charge for changes that were no fault of our own and made by Delta months after we purchased the tickets. Since this was their mistake to begin with I feel like Delta is using the "bait and switch" method. We originally paid for a direct flight for $1250 and now we're paying $1550 each for a flight with one stopover through no fault of our own.
Do consumers have any recourse for this rip-off? We realize we have no clout with a big corporation who could probably care less that this is a hardship for us. In what universe does it cost $301.96 for a one-way flight from Portland to Seattle? We are extremely upset - not only for Delta not giving us another option at the same price, but for using what we feel is a dishonest ploy to get people to pay more money for their flights. It might be helpful for Delta to add to their website a disclaimer that consumers should be prepared for several changes and additional charges to their planned reservations.
