$3915 midweek Economy RT fare to Amsterdam

For many days in December 2018, the Economy RT fare from Houston to Amsterdam for mid-week travel next summer was listed on united.com at $3915, a totally insane fare considering that $800 to $1500 would be the norm.
When I contacted United about that, I got a complete hogwash reply about fares being based on historical sales data (?) or local events (The entire summer?).
The level of contempt at United has no limit.
