LAN Chile lost my luggage on a flight from Guayaquil, Ecuador to Miami through Miami, and while they called me twice to let me know they were looking for it, when they actually found it they have not been able to get it to me. They did send me a form asking me to sign away any rights to press them for damaged or lost property in exchange for a $200 voucher for future LAN Chile travel. I did not sign the form and still haven't seen my luggage. My calls to their lost baggage office have gone unanswered. I don't know where the bag is and if it has been looted. What is clear is that despite the fact that it was lost on December 21, there is no way I will have the Christmas gifts inside it by Christmas.

We too have a lost luggage fiasco going on at Santiago airport at the moment. 11 bags in total (group of 12) turned up to santiago with luggage missing. The LAN staff at Santiago said it hadn´t arrived. I called the Aukland LAN representative (our last point of transfer) who after repeatedly telling us we shouldn´t be contacting him, confirmed on his computer system that the bags left Aukland to Santiago on the 23rd December which was the same day we flew across.
The Santiago airport was littered with unclaimed bags. There were at least 100 by my count - a site I have never seen at any airport anywhere in the world. It´s either gross incompetence or systematic theft. I can´t believe we were lied to by the Lan staff at Santiago when it would have been much easier for us to sort things out whilst we were there. Now they hang up on us when we call to make enquiries. |
