Default Frontier Airline cancels flight

When an airline cancels a flight on us, as Frontier canceled our flight, shouldn't they pay a penalty just like they make us pay when we cancel or change a flight? They didn't even have the decency to notify me of the cancellation. and have to wait at least 10 days for my payment to be reversed.

Here is my story

On April 12 2011, I booked a flight from Seattle to NY Laguardia via Milwaukee

Date of flight Sep 22 11:50 pm flight f9322 reference IOWPIJ

we are vacationing in Seattle and returning to NY on the 22. All our plans were complete until last week I found out totally by accident that not only did Frontier cancel the flight but they without any notice booked us on the flight the next morning. They did not notify me and they booked me the next morning without even asking.

When I questioned the service rep she said that I could change the flight they put me on, or cancel. I canceled but they told me it would take up to 10 days to process (over $400) and of course I had to book on another airline and layout another $400.

They really disappointed me and showed they could care less about their customers.

Don't be ridiculous. If they had a schedule change, they offered to reschedule you or reimburse you. Many airlines won't reimburse you even if they change their schedule. The fact that a refund takes 10 days is normal. Again, some airlines make you wait months for a refund.

If the airline changes or cancels the original flight and the new flight is unacceptable they are obligated to refund. This is mandated by the DOT.

A refund by any merchant can take up to 10 business days to process. You are fortunate that you were able to find a ticket on another airline for about the same price. Otherwise you would have a good case for being compensated for the difference.

They did not have a scheduled change; they just decided to discontinue the late night flight without even notifying me. If I decided to cancel they would charge me upwards of $150. They get off scott free. Also, being that it was their fault that they canceled, they could have sent me a check. I don't like being out $400 for 10 ten days.

A refund for cancelled flight may be mandated by the DOT and is always included in the airline contract of carriage, but many employees don't know this, or the company tries to make it very difficult to get the refund. Extra compensation for a cancelled flight due to extenuating circumstances (as this case surely was due to the aircraft damage as a result of the hailstorm). It might be warranted for situations within the airlines control, such as lack of crew due to scheduling conflicts, or tight connections that the crew misses.
