Outrageously rude gate agent
We were travelling home from Ft. Lauderdale today with our 2 young children on DELTA. When we booked our tickets, we were unable to book seats together because we were not medallion members. We did on online chat when booking the tickets (over a month ago) and agent told us we'd have to change seats at gate. Despite this I tried a few more times but was unable. We arrived at airport 2 hours early today, but had to wait over an hour to check in. After waiting in a long line for the gate agent she yelled at us for waiting so long. We tried to explain but she continued to berate us telling us it was our responsibility- even suggesting that we should have talked to TSA if we had a problem with the length of time it took to check bags! She faulted us for making her work so hard and was yelling at us for putting pressure on her. By the way, she still got the seats wrong (when we got on the plane they were already assigned to someone else).

Delta are arrogant, bloated and totally unfriendly to customers travelling with kids. There are earlier examples of passengers facing the same kind of dilemma. There is only one option.. DO NOT FLY WITH THEM. They do not believe that the market will punish them if they do not care for customers. The reason they believe that is because it is true. Delta managed their business so badly they went bankrupt. They were rewarded for this by being allowed to take over NWA and become the largest airline in the world. Meanwhile, their customers and suppliers are shafted. They now believe, with some justification, that it does not matter how they treat their customers.. as it will not affect their business. The only thing that will is customers deserting them. Sadly, as they operate huge localised monopolies, there is little chance of this happening.
