Flying Blue is a scam. I have been flying with Air France for 4 years averaging 30 flights a year. I just tried to use my award miles and there are dates listed but when you try to book, they are not available. I checked their taxes and they are higher than the price of a all inclusive flight from the same airline. Example – flight from London Heathrow to New York has taxes of £471 + 45,000 miles (promo) and the same flight can be booked on their website for £399 inclusive of taxes and no miles.



Surely there must be some kind of law against this!!!

Frequent flyer schemes are scams designed to distort the market. It would be significantly better if passengers simply travelled with the most convenient and cheapest flight. This would allow the market to work properly. Instead, we have a market distorting situation, where employers pick up the tab for business travel and employees spend the "benefit". This discourages the employee from normal market behaviour, selecting instead the best option for them individually rather than the best value.
