Default Lost baby stroller during flight

I (alongwith my wife and 2 and half year old son) flew to boston from los angeles via chicago in april 2011. When we arrived in boston, we realized southwest had lost our son's stroller. We reported the loss to local baggage office and kept calling them to find if they found the stroller but no luck. After 5 days, we submitted the claim and almost a month later they denied our claim saying they needed original purchase receipt. This is really weird, who would have the receipt of a baby stroller that's one year old and costs $185? I was not asking them to reimburse the whole amount, they could depreciate it as much as they want but at least they should realize that it was a mistake on southwest's part and they should compensate for that instead of offering a lousy excuse. I'm never going to fly southwest again!

Disappointed with service and rude people.

There is no legal basis for Southwest to demand the original receipt. If they acknowledge they lost it, they are legally liable for the loss. File a claim with the DOT. If that doesn't work, file in Small Claims court. They will concede before it even gets there. They know perfectly well they have no right to demand you have the original receipt. If you have a photo of your child in the chair, send it with the claim. They are outrageous..don't let them get away with it.

aditya: One detail in your account was left out. Did you check your stroller with Southwest in Los Angeles all the way through to Boston or did you keep it with you and had it tagged by the gate agent and left it planeside to be picked up when you deplaned?
