We are wondering if other people have experienced similar problems with Allegiant Airlines and their trip insurance.

Concerning Allegiant Airlines:
We made reservations on May 8, 2013 for three tickets from Mesa, AZ to Bismarck, ND. We purchased trip insurance because we knew we could possibly have a conflict with the dates of travel. On May 17th my wife found out she was not able to get off of work for the trip and called Allegiant to cancel the reservation. When she asked for a confirmation number for the cancellation of the tickets, the reservation agent informed her that all we would need to do was to use our original confirmation number for credit when we rebooked our flights. My wife did not have a comfort level regarding the information given and asked a second time about the confirmation number for the cancellation and was given them same information, “not to worry” and to just use the same confirmation number when she rebooked.
We just found out today when an email was sent regarding our flight that the trip had never been cancelled. When we called customer service the person talking to me did in fact agree that confirmation numbers for cancellations are not given. However, it has now become a situation of our word against theirs as the person my wife talked to never noted that she had called to cancel the flights. The notes indicated that my wife had called to ask if we had trip insurance which was completely inaccurate. My wife knew we had trip insurance and the purpose of the call had been to cancel the flights. We are still in dispute with Allegiant over this and are wondering if anyone else has had the same experience with Allegiant Airlines.
Michael

I had to cancel with allegiant about 4 years ago, so its been a while so things may have changed. When I cancelled, I called them, they told me, my reservation was cancelled and I would use that same confirmation number (my original confirmation number on the ticket). like I said, things may have (and probably did change) but I never had a problem getting my credit

If you call only to inquire about change fees they do not know if your real intention is to inquire or actually cancel. You need to make sure they understand that you actually want to cancel, not question.

Doesn't sound like that is what happened, if the caller repeatedly asked for the cancellation number.

pattis,

Thank you for your response being it looks like you are an airline employee so we appreciate your looking at the airline's side of this matter. However, it was never a case of calling to inquire about change fees, it was a case of calling to cancel and my wife being concerned that they did not offer a confirmation number but being told that she merely reuses the confirmation number she already has when we decided to travel again.

In hindsight, I guess my wife should have called the next day to be sure the person she spoke to cancelled the flight as was instructed, but it is usually a 40 minutes wait to get through and the person my wife spoke to was so reassuring that the trip was cancelled and that she simply uses the the same number when we rebooked that it didn't occur to her to call again. Without a separate number to prove cancellation calls have been made, the whole thing sounded fishy to us. A company could argue with anyone that they did not cancel when they called in as the case with us so we were just curious if this exact same thing has happened to other people.
