Default Canceled flight and passengers bumped?

Nine months ago I made a reservation and paid for 2 non-stop round trips from BOS to Ft. Myers for April '08. Never heard anything from Delta re: these flights until we called today to check on the reservation. The agent then informed me that the flight had been cancelled, was subsequently reinstated, and that we were not re-booked on the flight. Instead, they rebooked us on a later flight with a three hour hold over and plane change.

I guess reserving and paying for something with Delta means nothing. They sell you one thing (non-stop) then give you something different.
I assume their motive is purely monetary as they likely resold our seats for a higher price. Absolutely no compensation of any type offered.

Anyone else encountered this type of business practice with Delta?

not with delta, but with american. American (believe it or not) called me the night before i was leaving (on a 6:30am departure out of ORD) and told me my flight for tomorrow was cancelled and they put me on a different non-stop flight that left at 5pm. I told them i couldn't do that flight because i was only going down to fort myers for 1 night and surprising my grandma, they said i could take a flight that connected in Miami that left at 6am so i took that, of course my miami to fort myers flight was delayed due to mechanical problem, they cancelled it after about an hour of waiting (they gave us $10 voucher for food and $100 voucher for future travel) and told us we can get on the next flight out which left in 2 hours or their was a bus that they chartered to take us to fort myers. i was really impressed with american.

Call delta back and tell them if there is an earlier flight you can get on, since they cancelled your original flight. even an earlier flight with a connection is better than a later flight, or keep the flight you have and when you make your connection, if your early you can try stand-by for an earlier flight to fort myers as well

Default Take the money and deliver something different???

We paid for a non-stop flight on 4/26/08; we were subsequently changed to a 1 stop flight on same date with absolutely NO notification from Delta. Downsizing the equipment and randomly dumping some number of paid passengers to different flights is regrettable.

However, it would appear that we are due some compensation for this change in service. Delta is not delivering the services paid for. Truth in advertising would indicate that you should deliver the services paid for or refund partial amount to cover what was originally paid for, i.e. a non-stop flight from Ft Myers to Boston.

Am I missing something here?

there are 2 non-stop flights from bos-rsw, 8am and 12:40pm, call them, tell them the situation and that the new flight that they put you on doesn't work for you.

Default cancelled flight

I called last night and spent about an hour on the phone with the agent and the agent's supervisor. They conceded nothing and offered absolutely nothing to remedy the situation. I will have to fly a day later in order to get the non-stop from RSW to BOS which will be very inconvenient and cost me some additional expense for land arrangements.
I'm done with Delta.

Lynn- Call Delta and inform them that you due have valid e tickets on that flight and that they you need to be put back on it. also when you call most likly you will be talking to somone in india, ask for a supervisor they are all in the US. Also as far as people being notified about changes if you book through an online site such as expidea, travelocity or cheap tickets the airline does not recieve your contact info. They notify the agency and the agency is to inform you. Orbitz is really good about that. Good Luck

Default like talking to a wall

I did speak with a supervisor and she had little to no interest in my situation. No matter what I said, her reply was that she had the "final authority" and that she could not/would not put us back on the non stop that we had originally booked. I booked the original flight on line at delta.com in May 2007. The most horrifying part of this is that they book your reservation, take your money, and then have no qualms in changing your flight to suit their financial needs... without any notification whatsoever to the customer.
