Tigerair Taiwan unreasonable baggage fees; flight IT603
Tigerair Taiwan charged extremely high and unreasonable baggage fees, and poorly communicated about its baggage fees. My one way flight from Korea to Taiwan on 8/31/2024 was $108 US but my baggage fees for 3 suitcases (60 kg total for two people) was 836,000 South Korean won (about $624 US).
Prior to my flight, Tigerair sent an email which said I could purchase a baggage allowance online in advance which would be cheaper than purchasing at the airport, but did not say when purchasing online would end or how much purchasing an allowance at the airport would be. When I tried to purchase online in advance, I was not able to; I guess I was too late. I went to the airport early and told Tigerair there that I could not purchase a baggage allowance online, but they did not help me with that or charge a reasonable baggage fee. Instead, they charged me 836,000 won.
I complained later to Tigerair. They said baggage information is on its website. The email that Tigerair sent had a link for baggage information, but clicking on the link led to a site that was partially covered up by a cookies message. The cookies message covered up a note about being able to purchase a baggage allowance up to 4 hours before a flight.
Tigerair should have clearly and explicitly provided baggage information in the email itself, specifically regarding the time frame for purchasing a baggage allowance online and regarding how much baggage fees would be at the airport. They should also charge reasonable baggage fees, not over $200 US for one suitcase. I will never fly Tigerair again and I am spreading the word about Tigerair.
