Default Air Canada slow refund in Australia

We booked flights on Air Canada in December last year. We have only just got the refund! Our travel agent was so frustrated in getting the money back from them. Apparently all monies go through a third party and they were waiting on the $ from the airline. Absolutely hopeless. Five months is what it took from when we cancelled in February to when we got the refund! What hope is there when a large so called professional company haven't got their systems together enough to deal with a basic administative detail. The refund was $50 short due to an error on Air Canada's part. Our travel agent can't get a response from them to fix this up either. No-one replies to her emails. It saeems once they have your money they cease to care about their service to you. The worse thing is we have had to pay $550 cancellation charges. We understand having to pay a fee, but to wait so long and still be charged as if they are upholding their side of the deal is too much.
