I spent $25.00 to check my bag and I received it back extremely damaged. a wheel was broken which made me have to carry the bag and a strap was ripped off leaving my back pack bag unusable. I want a replacement.

Did you file a claim at the American baggage office in the airport before you left? If you didn't do that, then did you file a claim with American Baggage on line?
