Expect to be lied to, anything to get you off the phone
If I thought air France abandoning the check in counter an hour before a flight, losing and confusing my reservation getting bounced around their different call centers was bad, I was in for a treat. I was told on the phone by reservations that the flight looked empty so when I got there I could just ask for an upgrade. After running to the gate after my connecting flight, I am informed the flight is full and there is no way that's a possibility. Oh and boarding is delayed. Icing on the cake.

I am actually a reservation agent I do want to apologize but you were given incorrect information by the phone agent. Unfortunately when it comes to upgrades into business or first class, you either have to do it with certificates or miles and have to be in an upgradable fare. It is very unfortunate that you had received this information. I really do love working for the airlines but sometimes we do have a few people that don't understand the policies or that are newer to the airline industry and that is why this incorrect information seems to leak out.
