I booked a flight from MSP to OAK via SEA. I was told my flight to SEA was overbooked when I arrived at the airport, so I was directed to a non-stop flight from MSP to SFO and my luggage was sent to OAK with my original flights. I contacted the Delta baggage department at SFO and they promised to deliver my luggage to my hotel by 10pm that day. I waited until the next noon (when I need to check out the hotel room) and still didnt get my luggage. I called the OAK baggage claim they said my luggage were still at the airport and I had to go to OAK to pick them up by myself. So not only they were delayed for more than 24 hours, I also had to drive more than an hour pick them up. What should I expect from that "promise"??? Why didnt you tell me earlier that there would be no delivery at all so I can at least get my clothes, chargers and other personal belongs myself a day before???

The reason is that Delta are arrogant and anti customer. The only solution is to not fly with them.. they are appalling.

Sounds like someone in the baggage office forgot to put your luggage on the delivery truck, or for whatever reason, the delivery service didn't pick them up from the baggage office. The person you talked to the second time was probably a different person on a different shift, and had no first hand knowledge of what happened (or didn't happen). Communication breakdown somewhere.
You SHOULD have been called when your luggage wasn't sent (if they were even aware that it wasn't sent). In the future, for whatever airline you choose to fly, be more proactive, and pester the baggage office. Call and make sure they had placed the bags on the delivery truck, or call around 9pm just to make sure you're in the back of their minds. Squeaky wheel stuff. Remember it's your stuff, and ultimately the only one who cares about it. |

You were entitled to compensation under the law but Delta never told you of the DOT regulation that allows passengers to buy essentials as they wait for bags..File with DOT a complaint |

If you were bumped due to overbooking, or voluntarily accepted rerouting, Delta must still deliver bags to you. They should not be telling you to come pick your bag up. Regarding essential items, the Federal Law has changed. They cannot limit their liability when your baggage is delayed. They must cover "reasonable" expenses during the time your luggage is missing. That's open to interpretation however. If you had a job interview and needed a suit the following day, they are required to cover that. If you were attending a wedding and needed a tuxedo, they would have to cover that. If your bag was only delayed one day, they would probably not be willing to replace your entire wardrobe. It's all negotiable.
