Lack of Respect for military
OK so i finished training in georgia and received my irreplacable parachute badge. It was pinned on my Army blouse. I placed my blouse on top of everything inside my duffle bag with my new army boots i recently purchased. So when I landed in Oklahoma to retrieve my duffle bag. All my crap was pouring and rolling everywhere off the belt. IT was ****ing embarrasing!!! I didnt mind people checking my stuff but have the ****n courtesy to close it back up if you do!!!! So i lost my blouse with the parachute badge i worked my ass for and my army boots. I filed claims and called and havent heard ****.

Sorry for the loss and damages to your stuff. The problem is with the Army bags is that the clip on the top of the duffle bags almost always come loose. I would suggest in the future, no matter what airline you are flying on, putting a padlock on it to hold it closed. The TSA opens pretty much every military bag because of all the gear you carry, it's most likely that they didn't latch it back correctly and then in the process of all the transfers and baggage belts and so on, it came open. I think it is pretty safe to say that if it had come open while our personnel were handling it they would have put your boots and shirt back in and closed it up. I hope you have better experiences in the future. And thank you for your service.

I honestly do not know, I haven't dealt with lost luggage in some time, but if I was forced to guess I would say no. Doesn't the army have records of you getting a parachute badge? Could you just order another one?

Ok, well maybe it is different in the US military now, but when I was in the Royal Navy if I had posted in a public forum a letter of complaint phrased like that, I would be up on a charge of "bringing the Royal Navy into disrepute". When we did joint exercises and training with US forces, I found them to be highly respectful and professional. I am a bit taken aback that standards have dropped that dramatically... Now Delta are my least favourite airline and their customer service standards would make Mother Teresa swear, but really, was that for real?

Yes....typical passenger that we have to deal with on a daily basis. Sure, things went wrong but there is no need for that kind of language and believe me, the passenger then personalized with the agent they're dealing with, as if that agent personally made the problem. Disgusting. Glad I left as I see things haven't changed.
To answer her question, yes, even rotten-mouthed people like you are entitled to all your belongings. You needed to file a report with the agent right away. I hope you did that as DL will use the 24 hour rule if you didn't. If you did, it will be handled by the central office, not locally. You will need to supply a list of all missing items, cost and probably receipts. Give them some time as they are too big for their own good now and I'm sure slow as mollasses. Furthermore, I don't see what respect has to do with anything here. Your bag popped open. It happens, happens more than you think. There was no disrespect on the airline's behalf but the language used in your complaint does show me there was a lack of respect on yours. Clean up you mouth and then stay safe. Thank you for your service. |

Let me just add that in my time I've handled hundreds of military duffle bags, and only one or two that came open. These things are designed to be stuffed to the gills and not come apart. When I did have ones that came open, it was because they had not been latched together properly form the get go on the top.

Guess things have changed. When I just about finished basic training with the USAF, the TI took us aside and said, "Right here, right now, clean up your language. I don't want any letters from parents later asking "Why is Johnny saying pass the f-ing salt?'"
It was a matter of pride, to speak properly. As to the missing uniform items, it's replaceable. File a claim. If you spend more than a few years in the military, stiff will get lost, stolen, damaged or otherwise ruined just on the job. |

I do not think they are disrespecting you or the Military. I do think that the airlines disrespect everyones luggage.
I am not sure about the Army but, the Navy for sure REQUIRES you to have a pad lock on their sea bags on airlines. Not only are the bags can get heavy but, they do spill open. Oh and sometimes they are overpacked. I think maybe you should try a Padlock next time or put your important belongings in a seperate bag.
