I don't know if all airlines are having the same issues handling the fueling of flights out of Miami International Airport (MIA), but AA is clearly failing. Until the fueling system is fixed fully they should not be allowed to run so many flight into Miami for connection to other flights that have little hope of getting out on time, it at all.
We lost a two week vacation through the Panama Canal & Costa Rica that was already paid for, because American Airlines routed us through Miami for a flight to Panama City (PTY) that they could not make. They cancelled
ALL flights out of MIA to PTY yesterday, March 26, 2011. They don't cancel them a day in advance so you have time to make alternate plans, they wait until just hours before the flight, then cancel. They book you on another flight, but that is useless when you have to catch a cruise.
This fire happened several days ago. They may have hoped they could meet commitments, but they KNEW it would be a severe stretch. They lure you into the trap of MIA, then you're stuck. We wanted to stay in Miami a few days to make the best of a bad situation, but were told there was no assurance we would get our checked luggage before the end of the week and it would cost nearly twice as much for the return flight. We could hardly walk and sightsee in the Everglades for two days without our boots and a change of clothing.
