Kenya Airways KQ101 - Honeymoon nightmare with Kenya Airways
We had a terrible experience flying from Heathrow to Kilimanjaro on our honeymoon. We had a 24 hour delay in London and then another 24 hour delay in Nairobi where we were due to get a connecting flight. In the end we had to buy a separate flight on another connecting airline or we could have risked losing out on the entire safari (which happened to be a wedding gift from our family and friends).
We lost 2 days of our 4 day safari in the end and weren't able to recoup any of the money from Kenya Airways. On the way back from holiday, we were also told that they didn't have our names on the flight manifest and there was a scary moment when we thought we wouldn't get on the flight home.
There are more stories about our interaction with the airline which I could go into detail about, if anyone's interested in hearing more, but needless to say, it was a terrible experience from beginning to end. The final straw was when we got home and complained to the airline. We then had a series of excuses from the customer services department who didn't even respond within the time frame they said they would. We're now at an impasse nearly two months afterwards and it doesn't look like an end is in sight. In total we've lost $750 worth of Safari trip plus $600 in additional travel costs!
Please think very carefully before flying on Kenya Airways. I wish I had done my research much more carefully as when you look online you'll see that lots of people have had problems on their flights. It appears that the flights are cheaper, but if you lose half your holiday it's really not worth it.
