Angry no corona virus related fee waivers

We booked a flight in January to fly to SEA, epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the US. When attempting to cancel this flight we were informed, by an extremely rude agent, that there would be a $200 cancellation fee (on a $300 ticket!). Any attempt to discuss this was met with an offer to once again read their cancellation policy. What a mistake booking with American Airlines. No wonder they are #1 on the complaints hit parade. This is a national health emergency, we are in the at risk" group and AA is not interested.
