Super Storm Sandy - Disappointed in Virgin America
My husband and I were scheduled to fly from LA to JFK on Oct 28th on Virgin America. They cancelled the flight. I called them to re-book and was on hold for nearly 2 hr without any success. My friend in the mean time looked for flights to JFK, but there were none available with open seats. She however managed to purchase tickets for us to fly to Chicago on the same day at full fare price. We decided we would drive from Chicago to JFK. Once we got to the LA airport, the agent at the check-in counter was extremely helpful and switched us to Philly, a much easier drive to JFK than from Chicago. In the mean time I received a call back from Virgin. They canceled our ticket to JFK, but did not adjust the fare of our new ticket. Many of the airlines including Virgin America posted that they would not charge travelers cancellation fee and fare adjustments. So, I called Virgin America today and asked if they would consider refunding the higher fare we paid for our ticket. I was very disappointed with their response. They would only refund if we were flying to the same location but not to a different location. Not sure why that should matter to them as long as we were trying to get close to our original destination. I can understand if we flying to a location no where near our original destination. It is sad to see how some of the corporations are failing in their social responsibility to their community, especially under this situation where Super Storm Sandy has caused a lot of stress on individuals.
