Default American Airlines January Loyalty Program Change (AAL)

Whiners take notes on your "precious status":

American Airlines January Loyalty Program Change (AAL) By Vanessa Page | November 10, 2016 — 5:41 PM EST

Further details about American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL)’s new revenue-based loyalty program have been released.

The new program will go into effect on Jan. 1. At that time, fliers will be required to spend a minimum amount before upgrading their status. Previously, status could be earned simply by flying a certain number of miles or flight segments.

In order to achieve Gold Status, customers must spend at least $3,000 on airfare (excluding taxes and fees), and fly 30 segments or 25,000 miles. To achieve Platinum status, customers must spend a minimum of $6,000 and fly 60 segments or 50,000 miles. Platinum Pro status is achieved after spending a minimum of $9,000 and after flying 90 segments or 75,000 miles. Executive Platinum status comes after spending a minimum of $12,000 and after flying 120 segments or 100,000 miles.

Purchases through certain American Airlines-affiliated credit cards can be converted to minimum spends. For example, $50,000 worth of purchases on an AAdvantage AviatorTM Silver MasterCard converts to $6,000 of Elite Qualifying Dollars. This is the minimum spend required to achieve Platinum status. American Airlines also hinted toward a secret Elite status level, points out Skift.com. Details about the ConciergeKey level remain mysterious, but American Airlines revealed this week that these members will be boarded and upgraded ahead of Executive Platinum members. ConciergeKey members will have an upgrade confirmation window of 120 hours before a flight, greater than the Executive Platinum upgrade confirmation window of 100 hours.
