I live in Laramie Wyoming with my husband and five year old daughter. We paid $1700 for two tickets for me and my daughter to fly from Denver to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our flight was supposed to leave at 7:15 on December 22nd, and we watched flights leave to New York and Austin out of our gate, which said Grand Rapids and showed us delayed til 9 pm, for almost 4 hours.
Finally they said the flight was canceled but that they would rebook us on a flight leaving for Grand Rapids at 10 am Dec. 23rd. They gave us vouchers for hotels and rebooked our tickets, but we had to wait in a 3 hour line to get this done. My 5 year old and I did not get to the hotel til 1:30 in the morning, but she was still so excited and happy because she was still going to get to fly on a plane to see Grandma and Grandpa the next day. We arrived this morning at the Denver airport and stood in line for 3 hours at check-in to find out our flight had been canceled again and the next flight would not be until after Christmas day, and we could not stay in Denver that long--we could not afford after spending $1700 on a plane that was supposed to have left 4 days prior to that! My daugher cried all the way home to Laramie and she wrote a letter to her Grandma and Grandpa in the car that said, "Dear Grandma and Grandpa I love you and miss you so much have a happy Christmas by yourselves." (The spelling was not that good in the actual version). I was able to get our money back for our flight. No one once apologized to me. We came home to our lonely house and we had spent days of packing and present wrapping. It's the night before Christmas Eve day and if Frontier Airlines had just told us we could not get a flight on the 22nd we could have driven to Michigan and been there by the 25th. As it is, we are all so, so sad. I want to say how angry I am at Frontier Airlines. But all I can say is that they deeply hurt me, my husband, and my five year old girl and her grandparents with their irreponsibility. I just feel there is no excuse for that. They should be ashamed of themselves, deeply ashamed. My little girl cried herself to sleep. Something must be done to stop them from doing this to people. It was not just that I waited at the airport with my 5 year old for a total of 15 hours, not counting the hotel. Or that I spent 3 hours standing in line twice. This is about family and commitment and trust. I bought a ticket from Frontier Airlines because I trusted that company to keep their word and get me and my little girl to see my family in Michigan for the holiday. I will never do this again, but nothing can make up for the pain this has caused us. Please, if you had a similar experience with Frontier Airlines this holiday, please post to this thread and maybe there is a way we can write a joint letter or petition. At the very least, please learn from our experience and if can possibly avoid it don't fly Frontier if it's very important for you to get to your destination. Thank you. |
