Default Damaged Baggage & Lost Items

On January 23, 2008 AA069

A bottle of wine which was probably warped in a profit ional bottle case was broken Many of my clothing were damaged and few items worth $280 were missing
I fill a mishandling report with American Airline office in Miami with a nice polite employee named Victor Gavidia. Mr. Gavidia inspected the damages and fill his report and assured me that the airline will take care of Dry Cleaning and missing items and he asked me to call Ms. Olga Pena (305) 526-1984. Missing items were $280.00 and damaged items were $1290.00

Calling Ms. Pena which she offered to pay only for the missing shirts ($80.00) or $100 airline certificate, which I refused, and she promised to mail me a letter explaining her decision. (this letter never came)
Writing to American Airline Customer service in Texas was another story, the answer all my written certified letters with a vague e-mail which I cannot respond to and they disagree with the decision of their agent in Miami and refuse to pay any thing .

Now yu can not carry any liquid, bottle in your hand luggage and MUST BE placed in your checked in luggage, the wine was placed in a wooden box rapped with plastic and clothing. I did not know what else to do.

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I can understand your frustration with the broken bottle ruining your clothes. Maybe next time put the wine in a separate piece of luggage. I have worked for a major airline for almost 20 years, and see far too often broken bottles in someones suitcase. I know the TSA's restrictions limit you as to the ways to bring back bottles of wine.

Believe it or not, the baggage system in the airports are much more abusive to luggage than the people that handle your luggage. I know that's no comfort to you now.

although I understand your frustration and it sucks that all of your clothes got ruined....how is it the airlines fault that YOU packed a bottle of wine in your clothes? glass is prone to breakage. if it were me I would look at it as a lesson learned and next time not to pack red wine in my clothing.

Thumbs down Damaged Bag

Hi

I had to complain about damage to my husband's baggage back in May and have only just received a reply back from AA. It was the usual "sorry about that but you didn't let us know within the stated time". This, despite my explanation as to why we hadn't let them know (this was due to numerous telephone calls which got us nowhere whilst we were supposed to be enjoying our holiday) and trying to report the damage at Miami airport when it first happened! They ignored all of that and just brushed our complaint aside. I have e-mailed them back requesting that they get themselves some customer service training. They also had the cheek to say in the e-mail that they 'hoped we would book with them again'. Has the wonderful sunshine got to their brains or something??? What makes them think they are the only airline offering tickets? I am positive I will NOT be booking with them again. The service we have had in the past from the likes of United and Delta have far surpassed AA's service, not that we have had to complain about damage before. We did once with Virgin, who paid for the damage right away. They do give a little longer than 24 hours within which to report the damage, as I am sure they understand it happens when you are on your way to a vacation!! I can't explain how angry I felt on reading AA's reply. They can keep their flights and I only hope they don't manage to make too much of a profit this year!!!

Angry Egypt Airlines run by a group of Monkies

What ever you do, DO NOT EVEN THINK OF FLYING WITH EGYPT AIR. No only is their staff incompetent and illiterate, but they are extremely unprofessional.
I had reserved a departing flight for my mom and had a confirmation number that specifically stated "RESERVED AND GUARTENTEED". They claimed that her ticket was not registered in their system because my confirmation was electronic. WHAT TYPE OF B.S. STORY IS THAT? The ticket agent was a space cadet-The supervisor ignored us and was talking on his cell phone and using his Bluetooth as if he was trading stock-the manager was as arrogant and ignorant as they come. They claimed that she had to pay an extra $450.00. NOTHING SHORT FROM HIGHWAY ROBBERY. When I called their offices, the operated refused to give me the director’s name in their executive office; she placed me on terminal hold and later stopped answering the phone. I am thinking of starting a class action lawsuit against their ticket fraud operations and overbooking. Did I mention that half their staff doesn't understand ENGLISH?

I took a flight on April 20, 2011 from LAX with American Airlines to Illinois. When I got to the airport at LAX to check in my suitcase, I paid $25. It asked me if I wanted to pay an “extra $9” for my carry-on to “be sure it got on the plane.” I did not pay that since I “expect” my carry-on to go onto the plane. That is what I already paid for with my ticket! When I was boarding, they told me groups 4 and 5 would not get their carry-on luggage on the plane. Which shows me American already knew before the flight I could not get my carry-on onto the plane. The carry-on had to be checked. I quickly grabbed my laptop out of the carry-on. When I got on the plane, I saw MANY empty places in the overheads for suitcases. When I got to my son’s in Illinois, all my gifts for my grandchildren were broken. I had put them in the carry-on to protect them!! And a cup I bought at the airport was broken. Also my make-up mirror and bulbs in it were broken. My grandchildren knew I was bringing their birthday gifts. But the gifts were worthless!! I can still remember the sad looks on their faces when I opened my carry-on! All broken! It was a HORRIBLE experience!!! Then I had to go out to the store and buy more gifts for them to replace what American Airlines had done!

My god... How low will they go. This is shocking... It is bordering on blackmail.. Pay a fee or the bags get it. It is outrageous

I hope someone will be savvy enough to obtain proof of this scam. Take photos of the overhead bins with sufficient room and then go to the media. We need to use the tools available to us. Record on your phone promises made by employees... Photograph the contents of your bag if your are forced to check in your hand luggage... The only defence against these scammers is to collect evidence to use against them.

Thanks Jimworcs!
Excellent advice!! From now on, I will do what you said to do. I was so upset at the time, that I didn't even think to take photos, etc. Now I am more aware, and I will log any and all information. I appreciate your advice!!!
