Etihad - if you are late, we won't wait...
EasyJet (EZY) advertised for a while with the slogan "if you are late we won't wait". Etihad (EY) would not come initially to mind as EasyJet competition - however they behave worse:
Booked a flight from Dublin with them and arrived 59 minutes before departure at the check-in desk. Not ideal, I know, but if it happened before it wasn't a problem (for other airlines). The airport, including the security checks, was idling - so there was more than a realistic chance to be at the gate 45 minutes before departure. If there would have been a quick response by Etihad staff. But there wasn't. They took my booking reference and then nothing happened. I was prepared to leave my check-in luggage behind - so there would be no further delay caused by myself. Etihad was not interested. 59 minutes before scheduled departure, that's it for them - end of story. After a few minutes they offered to reschedule to the next day - for the full ticket price minus taxes and fees. Considering it was a 40 hours (return) flight for just eight days I did not take that offer. I hadn't booked Etihad before and certainly never will again. A company holding their policies so high over their customer's interests is not for me. It wasn't planned to arrive late at the airport, but sometimes even with contingencies unforeseen events can delay ones progress. Under the circumstances I was happy to have made it with 59 minutes to go. Not unlikely that the flight was overbooked and the seat they sold to me wasn't even available. Etihad doesn't even see a necessity to reimburse fees and taxes... We will see. |

Same Problem, Disgusting Costumer Service
Hello, I had a flight scheduled on Wednesday August 26, 2015 from Tehran (IKA) to Toronto YYZ. I checked in my baggage and received my boarding passes for IKA to ABU and ABU to DUB.
The airport was in complete chaos and i had a problem with an officer at the airport who made a mistake on the computer during Passport control. At my point of entry into the passport control chamber i heard my name being called on the PA system to get to the Gate. First of all the Gate # on my ticket was 125, when the gate was actually gate 25. Second upon hearing my name on the PA system, i got to the gate 10 mins later because of my hold up at the passport control. When I arrived at the gate, i was treated very disrespectfully by Etihad staff and was told to "Return to Tehran" without an explanation as to what was happening. I had to yell and plead for an answer before someone told me the flight has left. This flight was scheduled for departure at 5:30am and I had arrived at the Gate at 5:45am after my delays. I have never in my life been on such a disorganized airline. While in line at passport control, the screen did not even show the Etihad flights status, no flights after 5:10am were on the board. In addition, a passenger from another airline was still not at her gate and a representative from the airline was calling her name in the line to see if she was held up because she had already checked in but was not present for boarding. Nobody called my name until 5:30 in which case even then i got to the gate 10mins after so i do not understand how the flight had already gone. In addition, the Etihad representative ripped my boarding ticket in front of me and told me to go back home. Once i left the gate to go investigate what had happened, my luggage was already waiting for me at 6 am. I do no understand how they had time to remove my luggage from the aircraft yet they did not have the courtesy to come and check what the problem was since i had already checked in. In addition to this issue, According to the airport database my flight was still on the runway waiting for departure at 6:15am so how come they could not let me board the plane at 5:45am? This is ridiculous management on behalf of Etihad Airways at IKA, Tehran. If there is a no-show penalty/ change date fee that is fine even though it was not my fault, but the fare difference is not my responsibility. I had a ticket and like every other airline in the world, a later flight should be found. It is not my issue that your flights are full in my class. I am late to University, Late to move into my new home, and late for my return to work. I am stuck in a country that i do not live in without anyone trying to find a proper resolution for my matter. In addition, i would like to complain about the Etihad office located at Sayeh Tower in Tehran. The phones are never answered no matter what time of day you are calling. They urge you to come to the office to speak in person. The office hours indicate that they are open until 16:30pm, I have been there multiple times this week and they have been closing the office at 2pm on their on accord. I received a call from Etihad stating that i should call and someone will help me with my problem. The resolution was to pay 1500 for a return flight. Etihad representatives both on the phone and at your designated offices are disorganized and representatives at the airport are disrespectful. I will be filing a formal complaint to many other airline complaint offices if there is no resolution for my problem. |

They should say "If you are late, we won't wait or give a **** how you get home"
