I bought an Air France AF/8997Depart:ATL 17:20 Sun, Nov 30 Ticket to Paris, got to the airport on time (1.00pm), and did not see an Air France agent. The Air france board read "wait..." After inquiring around, I learnt that their flights are sometimes operated by Delta. I proceeded to the Delta check in at about 3.00p.m and was in line for 55 minutes.
When it was my turn, I went to counter 50 and a Delta agent by name Rotimi was there. I gave him my traveling schedule, and he stood there for about 20 minutes, playing with the computer, and not updating me on what was going on. By this time, I had just one hour to my flight time, and Mr. Rotimi did not seem to care. He finally spoke, inquiring my lugagges, and I told him that I had two luggages to check in, and one extra luggage. The weight of my lugagge was 46, 54, and 50 pounds respectively. Mr. Rotimi said I had to balance the luggages to 50 pounds each. I balanced the luggage to 49, 51, 50. By this time, I had only 45 minutes to my flight. I explained to him that I would miss my flight and that he should just do me a favour and let it pass, since I was going to carry 150 pounds anyway. Mr. Rotimi blatantly refused. I asked to speak with a supervisor. Mr Rotimi stood there for 5 minutes, refusing to allow me access to a supervisor. He finally called one after I insisted that I had a right to speak to a supervisor. When he called, he already poisoned the mind of the supervior against me. The supervisor, Mr. David Weiz approached the counter and would not listen to a word from me. He found out that Mr. Rotimi was being difficult, but he defended him anyway stating that he was doing his job. I explained why I was in a hurry, and said I had bought a ticket from another airline, and was being made to fly another. Mr. Weiz's response to me was that I had the duty to research my ticket. How do I research a ticket whose Itenary says my carrier is AF/8997 Depart:ATL 17:20 Sun, Nov 30 and it turns out to be Delta? The arrogance with which Mr. Weiz presented himsef, made me wonder his customer service forte, let alone that of a supervisor. He went to the extent of pointing fingers in my friend's face, and threating us with calling the corps to throw us out of the airport. I have never felt so violated in my whole life. I just used my money to buy an hour of violation and simple assault from both Mr. Rotimi, and Mr. Weiz. Of course they delayed me enough to miss my flight. I have been rescheduled for Wednesday. I have no option but to fly with Delta, but this is goint to be the last eventhough I am a skymiles member!!!! AirFrance is another story. What happened to AF/8997 Depart:ATL 17:20 Sun, Nov 30 that I was booked on? Is this a bait and switch? Why did no one tell me that it was going to be Delta instead? I will go to the bottom of this to prevent other travellers from suffering the same demise I encountered. |

Check your itinerary that you got from Air France. Under the flight number, does it say something like "operated by Delta"?

1. You purchased what is known as a codeshare. On all codeshare itineraries it will say the marketing carrier, in this case Air France, AND the OPERATING carrier, in this case Delta. Your failure to read you itinerary carefully is your fault.
2. According to your post you arrives at the airport at 1PM but did not arrive at the Delta checkin queue until 3PM? It took you 2 hours to figure out your flight was on Delta and to go to their counters? If you had just looked on the departure monitors for the 17:20 flight to Paris you should have noticed it was a Delta flight. 3. The suggestion of the Delta agent to shift the weight of your checked luggage was for YOUR benefit. As it was you would have been charged for an excess bag AND an overweight bag. By shifting the contents they would have only charged you for the excess bag. 4. The fact that the police/security was about to be called speakes to YOUR demeanor, not that of the Delta employees. They will only call as a last resort. It seems like you did not make any friends at Delta in Atlanta that day. In the future, it is YOUR responsibility to be informed of such things. I see no fault on the part of Delta here. |

Before I was an employee with AA, I once flew from JFK to to Zurich...My ticket said SwissAir. So I get to JFK and go to SwissAir and there is not a single soul at their counters. I went to information and they pointed out to me that it was an AA flight. I got on the train and went to the AA counter and got checked in and made it on time.
PEOPLE! BE EARLY! Also read the fine print. The Delta guy probably had like 5% of an attitude because you were an idiot. Next time you'll know eh? 100% agreement with PHXflyer. |
