Unaccompanied Minors - Unsatisfactory Care
My two children are at this moment in the air flying from Raleigh NC to Los Angeles on US Air flight 569. I paid an additional $161 for them to travel as unaccompanied minors. They were scheduled to board Zone 1, but when we presented their boarding passes, there was no agent immediately available to take them to the plane, so we waited. In the meanwhile, an announcement was made that the flight was full and passengers could sit wherever they liked, as opposed to using their seat assignments.
The agent eventually arrived and took the boys to the plane. Shortly after I left the airport, five minutes before takeoff, my 12 year old started texting me that he and his brother were not seated together. My 10 year old was not within sight of his older brother, and while both boys had wrist bands, only one child had been provided a lanyard with boarding passes. I gave them a credit card so they could purchase wi-fi, but now a full two hours into the filght, I have not heard from either of them. They were not tagged to be separated, and I did not pack for them to be seated apart. To add insult to injury, for this fantastic level of care of my CHILDREN I paid $161 dollars.
I am flabbergasted. Perhaps I needed to request that they actually sit together? I assumed that was a given. They were already nervous about travelling alone, and I'm sure they are, at this point, much more so. We paid a much higher price to fly US Air so they could fly direct and be cared for. Apparently that was an utter waste of money.
