i know that this is a complaint site, but i thought something maybe handy for people who are in need of customer service due to a complaint or other situation
i keep hearing about how alot of people are complaining about United's customer service and cant get hold of someone or they are on hold....so on so for a few more $ try calling the United office here in Singapore, the customer service agents are much more helpful, your not put on hold, and they seem to be able to get alot more things done and you dont have to wait 2hours to speak to someone, it is more efficient over here and the people are more caring, understanding and it has a better setting for everyone just an idea but i dont know if it will work but its worth a try ......i have never used it as i dont fly United, i fly Singapore Airlines but the service here in singapore is always great |

I would think anyone who is NOT traveling to, or from, Singapore would get a hard time. Maybe I'm wrong. But, I can almost hear that long silence after I say I want to book a flight from Cody, Wyoming to Hartford, Connecticut.

i didnt mean booking a flight, i meant if there were any issues, and the whole lifestyle over here is much more relaxed, helpful, and they try to make sure everyone is satisfied, its a very very different atmosphere than over in the US and it is much much more professional and customer pleasing over here at the same time
i am sure that they would be very nice, polite and do their best to sort out what needs to be done to the best of their ability, and i doubt there would be a hard time, the culture over here is to help others, and to be polite and work with people one to one.....whereas it seems in the US it is like a fast food line get one customer in and out in 10 secs once you get a hold of someone, get in get out mentality |

100% agree the attitude is different in Asia. Don't know if it's a good example or not but went to Honda the other day to get the car serviced. Not only do they offer hot and cold beverages and snacks, which places in the U.S do, they have people serve you the condiments. Also, 2 large, flat screen tv's and computers with free internet. Service is Asia is far superior to that of the U.S. I am in Bangkok, btw.

i was in new jersey for 4th of july and it seemed like where i was they were charging for everything and anything to make money from anyone and taking advantage of everyone, since they know that kids want the toys and everything, and saw fireworks
i am here in singapore and witnessed a great scene on national day, you didnt have to pay for anything (get in, drinks, etc) and many places were giving out toy stuffed lions (singapore is known as the lion city for when the first settlers arrived, and the landmark is the merlion) we watched a great show put on by various groups to show the history of singapore in its 44th "birthday" of independance, we saw the police at work, the navy, and the airforce do flyovers and than witnessed fireworks, all for free, which seems amazin since i spent $50 just to see fireworks in my town back in the USA, and the people over here were very polite and asked how everything was and if we enjoyed it, and this one old lady helped a stranger out who was drunk and if you didnt enjoy it than the people would try anything to make your time better and leave you on a good note i just took the tiger beer tour with my family, $7, and at the end of the tour there was a free flowing bar/pub, and everyone was as a whole, everyone joking with one another, playing pool, darts, and just laughing, you dont see that back in america, and thats why i love it over here in singapore and many parts of asia but back to the post, the customer service is tenfold better over here and everything is more personal and they like to make sure the customer is happy and at least here in singapre they are very diversitised and help anyone and everyone, which i think if you call a office here with a problem than they will most likely be able to help |

As you said it might be worth a try, however I believe that if your ticket wasn't issued in Singapore or on United's Singapore website (.sg) in Singapore dollars there's probably little they can do. A friend and I were traveling in Europe and bought tickets on KLM to fly from Rome to Dublin. Our plans changed and we flew from Barcelona to Dublin instead but our tickets (issued on KLM.com.it) were refundable. At the BCN airport I gave a copy of out ticket information to the agent there but even she couldn't initiate a refund. Even though the ticket was paid in Euros and she was a KLM agent I had to call the KLM office in Rome since the ticket was issued there.

i know it may help if you are part of the airlines frequent flyer membership, as when my sister was coming over from england to visit and booked her flight in england, she wanted to sit on the upperdeck of the a380 to have a little more privacy in the 2 seat assignment next to the window instead of the 3seat downstairs, and since it was a Virgin Atlantic codeshare and couldnt do a seat assignment till check in, with my singapore airlines pps solitaire (platinum)(its above kris flyer-frequent flyer program), and was able to do her seat assignment for her both on her way here and back, i did this all from singapore
i figured its worth a shot, whats there to loose? |

If it's something as simple as a seat assignment then I'm sire any agent anywhere could help you. When it gets more complex such as an itinerary change or refund I'm pretty sure you'll probably need to call the airline's customer service in the country which it was issued.

i know the seating assignment is simple, but i have done other requests for family that have been more complex and had nothing to do with singapore, even once when someone was flying on a star alliance member where their comps went down i was able to get word for assistance through to them by singapore airlines notifying them
