Angry American lost my business

I made reservations for a party of three to a wedding in Tampa Florida from Milwaukee for next October. Somehow the wrong childs name got put on one of the tickets. Called American to have it changed as we were not close to the flight date. Their response was you have to eat the cost of the ticket and rebook. We will allow the other child (who is now married and not living with us] to use the ticket for a year. They are young marrieds and could not afford to go. so American just cost me 300 for the old ticket and have raised the price of rebooking to 400 so I am out 700 dollars for one ticket. I will never book with them again. They can change or do whatever they want to; they just wanted to grab the money. As far as I am concerned from now on I will not even consider a ticket they are a part of. Will pay more to other carriers just to avoid them. The name change would of cost them nothing. They just blew me off.

Did you give more than 3 names when you called to make the reservations?? I'm very curious how a wrong name got on a ticket. Are you saying it's spelled wrong or was it something like John Smith on the ticket and it should have been Mike Brown??

Need some more info.

It is irrelevant.. the fair thing to do would be to charge a small fee for the change, say $25 and the difference in the fair at the rate when the change is made.

Under this scenario, AA would have charged him $25 for the change and $100 for the difference between the $300 and the $400. Total $125. Instead, they gouged him for $700. Even my nemesis Ryanair would have only charged the change fee and the difference in fair.

It is gouging, plain and simple.

I was using travelocity profile that had all the family names and somehow when i clicked to add one child the other got put in instead. I think i caught it at the time and backed up and put the right one in; but apparently it did not erase and put the new one in when i sent it.

This is one of the problems with these automated systems. The airlines exploit them..but you may have better luck with Travelocity. Have you tried contacting them? You did afterall spot the anomoly and then attempt to correct it. The website appears to have overwritten you command.
